Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about working with public adjusters.
How do I choose the right public adjuster in Pennsylvania?
Start with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department's license search, then ask who will handle your claim, about experience with similar damage, and for references. Compare the written scope, fee, expenses, and cancellation terms before signing. Confirm that the adjuster can inspect your property in your municipality. The department's hiring guide explains that hiring a public adjuster is optional; you can deal with your insurer directly.
How are the top 10 public adjusters ranked?
The owner supplied the ten business names and their positions. Listings appear in descending numerical order, from 10 at the top to 1 at the bottom, on both desktop and mobile. A selection method and any paid-placement disclosure have not yet been published, so the positions are not independently verified ratings or recommendations. Read the About page for the directory's current status and assess each firm separately before hiring it.
What areas of Pennsylvania do these public adjusters serve?
Each listing shows a published contact address, which may be outside Pennsylvania; an address does not establish a service area. Give the firm your municipality, county, and property type, and ask whether it can inspect there. Pennsylvania spans the Appalachian interior and a Lake Erie shoreline; Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton form the Lehigh Valley, as described in Wikipedia's Pennsylvania overview. An office in Harrisburg or Philadelphia does not by itself establish coverage of those other areas. Ask who will attend an inspection and whether travel affects the agreement.
How much does a public adjuster cost?
The Pennsylvania Insurance Department says public adjusters are usually paid a percentage agreed in a signed contract, with the fee coming from the claim payment. Ask for a worked example showing the fee and the amount left for repairs, plus any expenses and the payment timing. This directory does not set fees or quote for a firm; request its current terms directly.
How do I contact a public adjuster?
Contact opens the firm's own contact page or inquiry form, and Website opens its official site. The directory contact form is for website and listing inquiries, not for sending a claim to a public adjuster. When contacting a firm, start with your location, property type, damage date, and a short description; arrange a secure way to share claim documents directly with it.
What types of property claims do public adjusters handle?
Ask each firm about the property and damage involved, such as fire, wind, or water damage, and whether it handles residential or commercial claims. Pennsylvania's climate overview on Wikipedia describes cold winters and a colder, snowier mountainous interior. For a winter-related loss, record the event date, affected areas, photographs, and emergency work so the cause can be assessed. Climate alone does not establish an insured loss, and flood, a burst pipe, and roof leakage should not be assumed to have the same coverage. Your policy and the actual cause matter.
